A Personal Experience

My 61 VW Bug lost its wiper motor one dark and rainy night. With access to the motor and linkage easily available, I disconnected the linkage. In my glove box, I found string, which I used to tie one end to the left wiper, running the string through the driver's side vent, out through the other vent window, and tying the end to the right side wiper. Voila! Manual windshield wipers! Just pull the string back and forth… lol. Cars were still equipped with vent windows in the old days, making this fix possible.
