My Best Vehicles: A Journey Through Years and Miles

My Best Vehicles: A Journey Through Years and Miles

Driving history is often dotted with stories of cherished automobiles that each add a unique chapter to one's life. For me, the journey has spanned from simple yet elegant classics to powerful modern marvels. Here, I share some of the best vehicles I've owned or driven, each offering its own charm and significance.

1978 Datsun 240Z: A Classic with Charm

Back in 1978, I owned a thrilling 70 Datsun 240Z. At that time, my driving skills were still honing, but the car itself was a thing of beauty. Its performance was impeccable, catering to drivers of all levels. Despite its graceful elegance, the car faced a slight setback due to an issue with the serpentine belt. This belt would consistently wear out within a few days, leaving rubber dust on the pulleys. I was not fully versed in automotive mechanics at the time but loved the car nonetheless. The later generations of the Z series, while technically advanced, often lost the nostalgic charm of the classic 240Z. Unfortunately, I had to scrap the car during a trip to New England that winter. This Memorial 240Z will always hold a special place in my heart for its character and historical value.

The 90 Corvette: A Dream Car

Many men dream of owning a classic Corvette in their lifetime. While I agree with that sentiment, it wasn't until much later that I was able to own one. Upon owning the 90 Corvette, I found myself appreciating its power and elegance. Although not as practical for daily driving as the 240Z, the Corvette’s excellent handling and performance make it an ideal choice for those who seek the thrill of the open road. Sadly, I no longer have the Corvette, but if given the opportunity to choose again, I would definitely go for the 240Z. With its balanced performance, stylish appearance, and excellent gas consumption, it remains a true classic that has never aged.

International Transtar 2: A Home on Wheels

Before my time with the Corvette, I owned an International Transtar 2 for over a decade. This large vehicle was more than just a means of transportation; it was my home on the road. As a long-haul trucker, I was contracted to various companies, primarily moving companies, for years on end. The experience of being on the road for months at a stretch meant living out of this massive truck. I racked up almost a million miles on this vehicle, traveling through four of the 50 states in the U.S. and exploring Canada. Long hours and sometimes scary moments came with the job, but I also had the privilege of seeing places that most people never get to experience. The bond I formed with the Transtar 2 over the years is something I still occasionally miss, reflecting on those exciting and challenging times.

Jaguar Sovereign: The Ultimate Drive

The Jaguar Sovereign holds a special place in my heart as the best overall vehicle I've owned. However, the MoriSubi FTO isn’t far behind—it was a blast to drive. The FTO offered incredible performance and provided a thrilling driving experience. My experiences with various cars in the east coast, particularly with a Charger Super-bee and a Tesla Model S, gave me a range of distinct driving sensations. The Charger surpassed expectations from the outset, offering a twitchy and quick ride. The Tesla Model S, on the other hand, provided supreme comfort and longest-distance driving experiences. In contrast, the Stingray and F-Type, while undoubtedly lightning-fast, are not the kind of cars I would relish driving on a daily basis.

Through all these vehicles, one must consider the aspects of best value and longevity. Each car offered unique experiences and memories but ultimately, the best vehicles are often a mix of beauty, performance, and the human connection we build with them over time.

Key Takeaways:

240Z: Classic elegance and performance. Corvette: Power and handling for the road. Transtar 2: Home on wheels for long-haul trucking. Jaguar Sovereign: Best overall with a special mention for the FTO for performance.
