The Car Tool We Never Have When We Need It Most
As a seasoned car owner, I've had my fair share of obstacles that come with owning a vehicle. One tool that always seems to elude me, is the one I need just when I need it the most – a 10mm wrench to disconnect the battery terminal. This indispensable piece of equipment is often needed when the anti-theft system trips unexpectedly. Sometimes, a remote can do the trick, but other times, the traditional method is necessary.
The Corkscrew and the Competitive Driver
Another tool that's often forgotten until you need it is the corkscrew. While my wifey might only have one glass of wine, she has no problem driving after it, thanks to her experience from the BMW High Performance Driving Center. In a tight spot, she’s the go-to person who can handle unexpected situations, like the famous bootlegger’s turn-around, where she expertly maneuvers us out of difficult circumstances. She truly is the corkscrew in the garage – a tool that, when needed, is indispensable.
The Unreliable Arsenal of Tools
When it comes to finding the right tool at the right time, I often find myself in a bit of a tedious situation. For instance, if I need a 10mm open-end wrench, there are three 12mm wrenches available. If I need a Phillips screwdriver, I’ll likely have eight conventional slotted screwdrivers instead. And if I need a T25 Torx driver, I'll find the entire set minus the T25. While I do have a volt-Ohm meter right where I need it, it will sadly be on a dead battery. This is unfortunately the reality of car tool management, and it's a pattern that has me leaning towards always organizing my tools meticulously and never sharing them.
When I discover a much-needed tool, it's usually because I extracted it a couple of days earlier to tackle a task, only to forget to return it later. This is a recurring issue that highlights the importance of proper tool management.
Conclusion
While it's intriguing to contemplate the car tool we never have when we need it most, it's equally important to reflect on the tools we do have and how to manage them better. Proper tool organization and maintenance can save countless hours and headaches, ensuring that the right tool is always at hand. So, take care of your tools, organize them well, and never share them out of necessity – because the next time you need them, they might just be the difference between a minor annoyance and a major defeat.
