My Heart’s Wildest Drive: Exploring the Jeep Wrangler Experience
When the question arises, 'Can you describe one car that you loved?' my initial thought may lean towards the sleek and modern Tesla Y. However, if I ask my heart, the answer is undeniably the old Jeep Wrangler. This iconic vehicle has a special place in my heart, much like the shirt and bumper stickers say - it’s a Jeep thing.
The Jeep Wrangler is not just a car; it’s a chiseled ally that connects a community of enthusiasts. The camaraderie and shared passion for this rugged vehicle can be felt in the honks and smiles from fellow Wrangler drivers who appreciate your unique customization, no matter how unconventional. If the customization or dereliction of the Jeep gets your fellow drivers’ approval, they might even leave a signature duck on your hood, a sign of respect and shared admiration.
Driving a Wrangler is far from passive. It’s more like being involved in an adventure, where you need to stay engaged with the road instead of merely enjoying the ride. These old Wranglers are known for their twitches and quirks, making cell phone use inadvisable unless you enjoy changing lanes or driving on the shoulder. It’s an experience that tests your attention and reflexes, ensuring every drive is a memorable journey.
My Previous Quest for a Vehicle
Back in the earlier days, I owned a Kia Sorrento, an SUV model that I felt very comfortable in. I financed it for six years due to its premium cost but still found it quite economical. Things changed when I was involved in a significant relationship. During this period, we faced several challenges that eventually led to the end of our partnership. My financial stability and good credit score meant that I could afford the six-year payment plan for the Kia Sorrento.
Unfortunately, the journey with this car was not smooth. Several years into the relationship, he got into trouble, which impacted our ability to renew the vehicle’s tag. Given the loan and his license revocation, the finance company would not approve any renewal. I had been out of the relationship by then, but the attempt to keep the car further complicated matters. I had paid for about three years when I was forced to relinquish the car to the finance company due to the legal and financial restrictions that made it impossible to keep it.
At that time, the car still had around $11,000 left on the loan, and I had to finance a similarly priced Hyundai Veracruz through my mother. The Veracruz is currently the SUV I drive, and while it shares similarities with the Sorrento, my mother gave it to me when she upgraded to another model. This transition was a bittersweet moment, highlighting the financial decisions that come with car ownership.
Lessons and Reflections
Each vehicle I’ve owned has taught me valuable lessons, from the luxury and modernity of the Tesla Y to the rugged charm of the Jeep Wrangler and the practicality of the Kia Sorrento. These experiences have shaped my preferences and understanding of what a car means to me. The Jeep Wrangler has the special place, reminding me of the adventure and camaraderie that comes with it, while also teaching the importance of adaptability and resilience in the face of unforeseen challenges.
